A great post from the Mexico Trippa page (http://www.mexicotrippa.com). Well worth the read, and applies to Mazatlán as well as any other location in Mexico….
Did I just say I’m Horny???
OMG, I’m hot… “Estoy caliente”. As everyone looks at you surprisingly, then cracks up laughing. What did I say.. I’m hot?? Then as someone lets you know, What!!! Did I just say I’m horny?? There doesn’t seem to be a hole big enough to crawl into..
And when you think it couldn’t get any worse than that, you ask someone else if they’re horny instead of if they’re hot… Ohh dear!! Haha
It’s the rookie error that everyone’s made once, and only once haha. And now when you start to hear other people make the same mistake, you’ll be cracking up laughing too.
OK guys, quick Spanish lesson – Caliente means hot right? Well Yes and No. It only means that SOMETHING is hot, not you (unless you want to say you’re horny). You use calor to refer to the weather and when you’re feeling hot.
Tengo calor – I’m hot
Hace calor – It’s hot
Estoy caliente – I’m Horny
La comida esta caliente – The food is hot (temperature)
I hope that with reading this, you will be able to avoid the embarrassment that I and many many others have made. Although I have a laugh about it now, God was I embarrassed haha
